David Fisher is the co-publisher and art director of Amazing Figure Modeler magazine. Founded in 1994 by he and his business partner Terry J. Webb, AFM is the world’s number one figure modeling publication with readers in over twenty-five countries. David is widely acknowledged as one of the foremost experts in figure modeling, getting his start in 1992 as a column writer in Model and Toy Collector magazine. His award-winning work has been featured in such publications as Airbrush Action Magazine, Hobby Japan, Hobby Japan Extra, Model Graphix, and many others. David’s painting and design talents have been used for box art, promotional displays and prototypes. He has been in demand as a speaker and instructional demonstrator at modeling conventions, and in 1996, he was chosen to represent America on “Japan’s TV Number One Champion” television series.

Looking back, it’s no surprise that David would be working in the field of scale modeling. As an only child, David spent much of his time painting and drawing, but also building model kits. “It was one of the only activities a child could do completely by himself,” David now reflects. Like many children growing up in the sixties, David was lured by the siren’s wail of the monster craze; his mania fed by hours of reading Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine and building Aurora monster model kits.

“Never in a million years would I have dreamt as a child that I would one day be publishing my own magazine featuring monsters and models… life can really surprise you sometimes! Someone once said, ‘take what makes you weird as a child, and then make people pay you for it as an adult…’ I guess you could say that has been the blueprint for my life for the past decade or so!”

David attended a four-year program at the Memphis College of Art where he graduated with a double major in Graphic Design and Illustration. Upon graduation he worked as an illustrator in New York City before returning to Nashville and founding his own advertising agency. After almost a decade of working in the advertising and design industry, David sold his part in the business to strike out into the publishing world with Amazing Figure Modeler magazine. In 2005 he and his partner launched a second publication, Amazing Vehicular Modeler magazine, and they show no signs of slowing down. David lives in Nashville, Tennessee with his wife Cindy and their dog Renfield.
